Where Did Q.ai’s Algorithms Come From?

Gone are the days of costly financial advisors or vanilla robo advisor alternatives. Q.ai is powering a personal wealth movement that’s revolutionizing wealth management for everyone.

We’re doing it with the award-winning AI behind our best-in-class investment strategies. Our unique algorithms make for strategies that are simple, easy and transparent—so all you have to do is fund your account with as little as $100 and pick one of our unique Investment Kits to kick off your financial future.

So, what are our Investment Kits, and where do the algorithms within them come from? Let’s dive in.

What are Investment Kits, and how do they use AI?

Q.ai offers four different kinds of AI-powered Investment Kits, within the DIY Portfolio and the AI Portfolio:

  1. Foundation Kits
    • These are rooted in broad categories to cater to different types of investors—including everyone from risk-averse to aggressive investors.
  2. Limited Edition Kits
    • These allow investors to capitalize on short-term trends for a limited time.
  3. Specialty Kits
    • These allow investors to diversify with niche themes, from precious metals to clean tech.
  4. Community Kits - Community Kits are created from crowdsourced feedback from the communities and channels, like Forbes, that only we have. Our AI digs through our platforms to find what’s important to our users.

In the DIY Portfolio, our AI handles the holdings within each Kit for you (all of the stocks and ETFs, for example), but you can choose just how much money you want to allocate to each Kit. This is ideal for users who want to be more hands-on when it comes to investing.

In the AI Portfolio, however, you don’t have the option to manually adjust the allocation of your funds invested in each Kit. Instead, our AI handles all of it for you—optimizing for risk reduction within each Kit and amongst all of the Kits together. Basically, our AI diagnoses each Kit’s specific risk profile and how correlated each is with other Kits within this portfolio, and it rebalances accordingly.

Switching on our proprietary Portfolio Protection feature also triggers the use of AI. Portfolio Protection looks into market risk, interest rate risk, oil price risk and volatility risk to assess how these factors (and more) may affect your holdings. From there, it makes predictions and replaces funds to protect your portfolios from any sudden swings.

Where do Q.ai’s algorithms come from?

In 2017, Q.ai’s late founder, Stephen Mathai-Davis, launched his first startup, Quantamize. This was a leading retail investing website bringing AI-powered investment research to the retail investor market in the US. Stephen designed the AI-powered models, which ranked and scored 10,000+ stocks globally along with advanced thematic portfolio strategies.

In addition, Stephen also built top-performing advanced AI trading strategies for both US-listed ETFs and Options. Under Stephen's leadership, Quantamize became known as a leader in AI investing and, in November 2019, Forbes Media acquired Quantamize.

Flash forward to 2020, he began to build something more: Q.ai, the wealth-management app we have today. While the app is a much more modern adaptation for everyday investors of all levels of experience—packaged up in a pocket-sized hedge fund—the app still uses algorithms that come from a learning-to-rank structure rooted in our Quantamize days. The design of those algorithms, however, come from our team of engineers who leverage a mix of academia, computer science, disparate sources, alternative data sets and other networks to build the most sophisticated and smartest AI needed to solidify our award-winning investment strategies.

All of this means that you get a tool with investing strategies to which only hedge funds and high-net-worth individuals had access. The way we see it, there are three major benefits we see of using AI in investing:

  1. You don’t need to do (or pay for) the research yourself. AI digs into the details for you—and it does so much more efficiently for a fraction of the cost (if not for free, as with Q.ai).
  2. You don’t need to interpret the data yourself. Reading and interpreting endless financial jargon and the surrounding sentiment is an insurmountable task for humans, but not for natural language processing (NLP), which is the application of AI to human language and unstructured data.
  3. You don’t need to sweat the swings. Our AI enables neural networks to “learn” from mass amounts of data, develop insights and make predictions that are more effective than any human intuition.

Q.ai’s algorithms are constantly working to dig up the data and crunch the numbers for you, so you can focus on what really matters: your personal investment goals. Learn more about how Investment Kits work.
